5 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR HOME IMPOSSIBLY CHIC
five easy steps for a timeless home
I’m sure you all have seen the Kinda Chic trend that has been circulating the internet recently. I love seeing all the inspiration behind it—what others love, what they find chic, and how each person makes it their own! This had me thinking about what I find chic, in a home specifically, and it truthfully came down to the pieces that make my home feel cozy and timeless. The pieces that add to the story of our home, elevate and refine it, and provide that warm, welcoming feeling that we all long for. Often, there is a connotation that "chic" means everything has to be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be! I hope that these 5 easy steps guide you in creating a home you love and one that you find chic!
1. Saving for & buying heirloom treasures
When building our home, there were a few things I was willing and wanting to splurge on—lighting and select furniture pieces. I knew the lighting in our main living spaces (kitchen, dining, living, primary bedroom) was where I wanted to splurge, as they would set the tone for our home and truly create an elevated feel. In addition to our lighting, there were a few furniture pieces I had my mind set on—I knew they would be splurges, but pieces I would hold onto for years to come. My Elise and Henn console tables are those two pieces. They are heirloom-worthy purchases that add to the story, charm, and overall warmth of our home.
2. Purchasing faux florals for yearly use
You all know how much I absolutely love faux florals! Aside from the simplicity and zero maintenance aspects, I love that you can find faux florals that provide texture and dimension, along with a realistic touch. By purchasing these faux florals once, you can use them season after season, year after year. Although fresh florals are always beautiful, I find it incredibly chic to purchase once and reuse and restyle.
3. mixing high-end & affordable pieces
You guys always hear me encourage this throughout my posts—mixing high-end with affordable pieces! Yes—it can be mistaken that chic means all high-end, expensive pieces; However, this is furthest from the truth! I mentioned that I have a few high-end, heirloom-worthy favorites, but I have them balanced amongst affordable rugs, budget-friendly decor, and designer-inspired purchases that create a refined, warm, and charming home. If you can, create a balance of these pieces, and I promise you lived-in is more chic than a stiff and staged home.
4. Adding vintage-style touches
I’m often asked how to create a cozy and inviting home. Personally, I have found that mixing new amongst old (or old-inspired) pieces is the best way to achieve that warm and cozy feeling. Vintage-style rugs are my favorite way to ground a space. They provide texture and pattern, while also making a space feel intentional. If you have the budget to add a real vintage rug to your home, I would absolutely encourage it! For a more budget-friendly option, Loloi is my holy grail for all rugs. They have the prettiest, most chic vintage-inspired styles that are affordable, high-quality, and designer-approved. Whether it be rugs or other vintage-style decor, remember to add pieces to your home that provide charm, character, and a collected feel.
5. Using cozy accent lighting for ambience
The final tip I have for making your home feel impossibly chic—cue all the cozy ambient lighting! As much as I love our chandeliers and pendants, the small cozy light that comes from sconces, candles, and table lamps instantly makes your home feel so much warmer. To me, cozy equals chic! These can be small touches that don’t cost a ton of money, and they truly add the biggest impact.
